How to choose a POS system for your shop in Ghana
Most shops do not need the biggest system. They need one that works on the phone they have, takes mobile money, and costs less than the leaks it stops. Use this checklist before you pay anyone.
1. Does it handle mobile money properly?
Ask how a MoMo payment is recorded. You want the transaction ID kept with the sale and a report that shows MoMo next to cash, not a note in a book.
2. What hardware does it need?
A system that runs in a browser on a phone or laptop saves you from buying a special terminal. Printers and scanners should be optional extras.
3. How is it priced?
Look for a flat subscription in cedis. Be careful with systems that take a percentage of each sale, because the cost grows as you do.
4. Does it track stock?
Selling and stock should be one system. If you have to update stock separately, the numbers will drift.
5. Can you try it before paying?
Set up ten products and make five test sales. If a new cashier cannot do it in an afternoon, it is too complicated for your counter.
6. Who answers when it breaks?
Check that there is a person you can reach by WhatsApp or phone, in your time zone and language.
