How to track stock in a small shop in Ghana

You cannot fix a leak you cannot see. This method works with a notebook or a system, but it is much easier when sales reduce stock for you.

Start with a full count

Count every product once, on a quiet day, and write down the quantity and cost price. That is your opening stock.

Record every movement

Every sale, delivery, return and transfer changes stock. If it is not recorded, the number is wrong the next morning.

Set a reorder level

For each fast mover, decide the quantity at which you must reorder, based on how long your supplier takes to deliver.

Count a few items every week

Do a small stock take of your fastest and most expensive items weekly. A full count once a month is enough for the rest.

Investigate differences

When the shelf and the record disagree, write down the reason. Over a few weeks the pattern shows you whether it is damage, theft or a till mistake.

Try it in your own shop

Set up in minutes on the phone or laptop you already have. No transaction fees.
